My blood sugar is out of control right now. Yes, I am getting treatment to bring it down. Right now, my hands are itchy, red, dry, and because of excessive scratching, swollen. Is there any over the counter product I can use to give me some relief? I'm desperate here.

Thanks!

Aveeno and Eucerin both make OTC creams that will help, look for the eczema specific ones. Cortisone too. I have the same issue with my hands(difference cause ), and the prescription steroid creams do work the best. Whatever you use, try wearing cotton gloves to bed after applying it. I cut the fingertips off so they don't feel too hot. By the morning, it's almost always cleared up.

I would try an OTC allergy medicine such as Claritin. Most places will carry a generic version. Little to no side effects and no drowsiness.

I called my Dr, and she suggested the same thing. I'll try both methods and compare.

Dunking your hands in very hot (as hot as you can tolerate, but not hot enough to burn you of course) water can bring relief from itching for a while.

When you use lotion, check for alcohol in the list of ingredients. It can make dry skin dryer. One of my kids gets red, swollen, itchy, raw hands and we have to be careful about what lotions we use. Coconut oil seems to work well...rub it all over and put gloves on to sleep afterwards.

It's also possible that you're having some allergic reaction unrelated to your diabetes. I have reactions like that if I accidentally use a product with sunscreen. I've learned to read labels really carefully and not to try samples of makeup or creams that don't have an ingredient list, because my reaction lasts a month and feels horrible the entire time, unless I get a prescription for prednisone, which has its own problems for diabetics.

I find Topricin for all pain to be wonderful...it's all homeopathic and directed to neuropathy as well.

I have had that exact same problem before and I am diabetic also. The only thing that has worked for me is Pure Organic Coconut Oil. I have tried steroid creams, allergy creams, Aquaphor (sp?), Eucerin, etc, etc and none have given me as much relief as the coconut oil has. I always notice some relief right away but in case you don't then I recommend you keep applying it for a few days to give it a chance. Of course YMMV.

It is greasy but just be patient because it will take awhile to absorb or just put on gloves after applying because the greasier they stay, the better.

But of course, it may be difficult to find any resolve until your BS get more under control depending on how high they are running and how consistently high they remain.
