I'm looking at shelties and I'm wondering if anyone has one, my girlfriend has had one for almost 2 years and they certainly have all I'm looking for.

I have a 7 year old female. Before her (over 5 years ago), I had a male who died at 10 years old (cancer).

Whatcha want to know? The sheltie is my favorite breed.

Sweetest dogs in the world. They herd you all day. I don't think there could be a more attentive dog.

I'm also thinking about getting a sheltie. Are they barkers?

Default Shelties

We actually have 4 shelties. They are amazing dogs. I think they are the smartest, most loyal companion you can have. Yes, they do bark, however they are very sensitive so when corrected they will stop & do what you ask of them. They generally bark when they are playing & herding you! lol They are from the herding group, so they like to work. Running in front of you back & forth (they believe) is their job!
We have two kids that play baseball in the yard, our male gets very involved in their games & that's when he is noisy. He is just trying to voice his opionion about what is going on!
I say they are the best breed. You can DM me & see all our dogs or ask questions.

My first sheltie wasn't much of a barker.

Now the one I have now, at first, she wasn't. But she was ill and in pain. The last few months, now that her medical issues are relatively taken care of, she'd come out of her shell and barks at the normal things, but intensely. When she sees me preparing her food, she barks up a storm! When she "hears" me walking toward my unit (condo), she starts barking before I'm through the door. How she hears me, I don't know... she's totally deaf, so I dont know how she can tell I'm coming up. But she barks!

my dog's very best friend is a sheltie and they've known eachother since puppies. bindi was a barker but not constantly. he had a lot of energy as a pup, definately into herding, and was so handsome. now he's definately calmer. good luck, i think you're making a great choice.

Hubby and I each had one while growing up - his was a barker but he says that his dog was so intuitive.

I had a male - he a female - I LOVED my Wilbur! Such a good dog - smart and loyal.

I had a sheltie once upon a time who saved my toddler from being hit by a swing. They are great dogs..
