Animal rights charity PETA killed almost 90 per cent of dogs and cats placed in the care of the shelter at its Virginia headquarters last year, it has been revealed today.
The charity, well-known for attention grabbing publicity campaigns such as the 'I'd rather go naked' anti-fur campaign, euthanized 1,647 cats and dogs last year and only placed 19 in new homes according to the data submitted to the Virginia Department for Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Hypocrisy is indeed the first word that comes to mind when I think of PETA. Mainly because they use the sexual exploitation of women to protest animal exploitation. Seems a bit hypocritical to me.
The organization does indeed believe that animals are better off dead than in the company of humans, because humans are all evil scum. I've noted that PETA targets the most unintelligent among us, and these young, uninformed, easily brainwashed followers make up their base of support.
With all the dark and twisted crap they pull, it becomes farcical that the word "ethical" is part of their name.
This has been well known for years. In fact "almost 90%" is an improvement over some prior years. PETA has never denied it, stating they take hard-to-adopt animals. It amazes me that there is anyone left who supports them. Very, very few people involved in animal welfare do.
I have had problems with PETA and the way they speak out of both sides of their mouths for years now. PETA doesn't believe in "right to life" for animals, considers that pet ownership is animal slavery. Doesn't support any type of working animal etc. I don't understand the self loathing that one must have to believe that people are all so awful and that we are all animal abusers or enslavers. All cats and dogs should be dead because they are domesticated and not fit to be released to the wild (since there is no 'native habitat' for them, there is no where to release them) but yet I should not eat meat because that is taking the life of an animal? And that makes sense HOW?
They also support breed specific legislation and the immediate euthanization of all "pit bull type" dogs. They actually sent cookies to a shelter to celebrate it going from no kill to a kill shelter.
