Wonderful article. I wish pet owners would take advantage of the free classes and read the extremely affordable/free literature on it. It would save everyone (parents, children, pets) a lot of heartache
I cringe so badly when I see the videos posted on youtube of children "playing" with the family dog by crawling all over it while the poor dog is lip licking, showing whale eyes, and looking away. One day doggy is going to have exhausted all his signals and resort to growling or worse, biting...and people will label the dog vicious.
Watch body language, practice taking things away to avoid resource guarding, and we even involve our son in their feeding time (since he was ~21 months old). HE gives them their dinner...he will be 2 this week and he remembers the breakfast, lunch, and dinner times, whose food is whose, where everyone eats, etc. He commands them to sit for cookies!!
Under no circumstances is dog torture allowed!!!
I am reporting this article on Facebook for all my friends. Good stuff.
