Lucy is 12 and as far as i know only her second dental. We got her first about 8 years ago when we got her out of rescue. I always tried to brush her teeth but when her gums bled i stopped. She was never interested in Greenies or any other product which was supposed to help teeth. Kibble only. She's almost 13 years old and i was very nervous. She had to have 6 teeth extracted. I feel so bad for her. She also had the largest of her "old lady bumps" (warts) removed. Her blood work was done the previous week as part of her senior panel.

Toby is 5 and probably his first dental. We've had him 2 years. He had 6 teeth removed. Ouch. Again I feel bad. Also all his blood work done the previous week. The total bill including $125 for removal of Lucy's growth was $1,029 for both dogs.
In less than 2 weeks we have spent $1,100 for all 4 pets to have physicals, senior panels, shots, office visits, $325 for dentals for the cats and $1,029 for dog dentals and nobody was even "sick".

I don't deny it hurts but it had to be done Just glad we have the money but corners will have to be cut in other areas of our family life. No winter boots for anybody this year but here in n.C. we really don't need them much any way. A scaled back Christmas won't hurt anybody and we are making most of our Christmas gifts this year too.

Being a responsible pet owner is expensive. BTW came across the estimate for canine dental at our usual vet here in town from 2012....$690+ depending on how many teeth needed to be pulled and that's for one dog. We opted to go to the smaller town nearby with a terrific but more reasonable vet.

The cats have recovered but the dogs are still off their feed and very subdued.
