CORE, W.Va. (AP) - Life jackets are made for people, not dogs. So, when Randy Earl's small boat capsized while he was fishing with his dog Lacy, a black spaniel mix, he stayed in the water with his life jacket while making sure Lacy was OK.

This story brought tears to my eyes. I'm not a very religious person but I believe because of his actions god watched over this man while he was in that water.

See there are good people in our world.

This story touched me as well. Animals are like actual kids to most pet owners, I know that is how I feel about my two little Poms. I can truly understand why he wanted his beloved Lacy to be saved first. I know he would have been devastated if he would have lost her especially since he has already lost his two children.

Really nice story. Sweet guy.

My dog swims better than I do, I'd probably latch onto him and let him take me to shore, LOL.

Also, they DO make life jackets for dogs.

Speaking of our affection for pets, I am very weird in the way that I cannot watch an animal die on tv. People are fine, but I have to look away when an animal is getting hurt.
I believe I would try and save my dog first as well. It would crush me to lose him.

It reminds me of the Katrina families, who were stranded on the roofs of homes, etc. When rescue boats came, people were told there was no room in the boats for the family dogs. Some left their dogs, some would not. I am sure there were folks in New Orleans who died because they would not leave their dogs.

I'm the same way. I can't watch that show on Animal Planet where they show the dog protection officers that go around to stop people from abusing the animals, I can't watch it. I can't watch the vet shows that show animals injured.

That is a very touching story, I am so glad they were able to get them both out of the water.
