We have tried taking our boxer Hudson to the vet many times. The vet has suggested that it is allergies. But with multiple attempts at trying to cure this skin problem he now has no skin left just as we have no money to pay these bills that keep getting more expensive! I ‘m trying to see if anyone else has come up with this problem or know of a remedy to help us. we also have him on special food. He will not stop scratching 24/7 . Thank you for your time.

What food do you have him on?

Big, scabby rash that is widespread across the dog's body? If you look at his belly you see blotchy, red marks that eventually bleed with incessant scratching?

The vet is probably right about the food allergy. You may want to give grain-free foods a try since a lot of dogs seem to have problems with corn and wheat. Another possibility is a specific protein allergy. It isn't uncommon for dogs to have allergies to some poultry, particularly turkey.

You could try going to a home-prepared chicken and brown rice diet for a few weeks. If the skin clears up you have established that it is something in the food that is neither chicken nor brown rice. Then you can start easing him into some higher quality kibble and keeping a close eye on his health and skin condition.

Good advice about the food - often times, it's a trial and error process to find the right one. Personally, I feed a grain free one to help combat my Bostons and Frenchie's allergies.

Sounds like your dog is just miserable with all the itching. Could you tell us what your vet has done to help? What meds, injections, topicals, etc? I could reply better if I knew what's already been tried.

Maybe he's allergic to something in his environment?

I think I'm might try another vet - get a second opinion.

My brother's boxer is horribly allergic to wheat and he said that a lot of boxers are. I'd switch to a premium gluten free food. Once they changed her diet, her coat and skin became beautiful again.
