wow I'm glad you took the little guy in,doxies are born beggars,,even though hes skinny stop your kids from falling for those sweet eyes, your dog wont remember his past the food craving is part of the breed, and remember a fat doxie will be an expensive pet,$1000+for back surgery which can happen to a skinny doxie from jumping off the couch/bed etc.
my advice feed it dog food let him gain his weight slowly, and place milk cartons with a fabric that matches your furniture next to the couch and beds . train them to use these to get up and down from them....its a smart breed you will find out they will learn fast use dog treats if you need to.
but as I said they will control you by being cute or even demanding. dont remember how thin he was get rid of that memory or he Will be the boss of your family!
What a sweet face and beautiful eyes! Yes, it would be hard to resist spoiling that little guy. Not overfeeding is one thing - but who could starve that little face? I don't understand.
He is adorable!! Thanks for adopting him...he'll love you forever!
Our rescure was also severely underweight when we got her last April. She is now a tad plump!
