I LOVE clicker training. Used it to earn my dog's CGC title.

Look at 'The Power of Positive Training' by Pat Miller, in addition to the Karen Pryor book.

Also there's ClickerSolutions Home - a really good website. DO read about HOW it works before you start using it!

I have used it as well and think very highly of it. It works best with a food-motivated dog, JMO.

I clicker trained Dylan. Loved it...and yes, works great with a food motivated dog. Click and Treat!
Our puppy class...and this was 8 yrs ago, was a clicker class...and so were all the classes that followed. I would highly recommend a puppy class. So much more than sit. With an AS, you may want to make sure he gets all his training early on.

I was introduced to one with my first dog through a puppy training course and then just used it with the others as they came along. I love it and still have my first one.

Eventually, they all would come running inside or to me when they heard certain noises like the refrigerator door opening or closing, the microwave going off - even tho I never fed them human food. Now, I have one where I just shake a bag of dog biscuits and he comes running inside when he's out on squirrel patrol bothering the neighbors - not that I give him a biscuit every time you just sort of ween them off the food portions after a while.

We used it with our two dogs that earned their CGC and their TDI certifications. We use it with all the fosters that come into our home so that they pick up on rules and manners faster!

Yes, I would still recommend going to puppy class. It's also important for socializing the pup, in addition to the obedience behaviors.

The thing I would look for and avoid in puppy class is when there is to big a disparity between size and age in the class.......IF.........the puppies are allowed free play.

There are different schools of thought on whether the free play or raising a dog neutral dog is best and I guess what is best depends on the life the dog will lead.
