I'm not saying it's good for you. But I've never heard of nicotine causing cancer. It's all the other compounds that do that.
Otherwise, the patch would cause cancer. Eh?

Is nicotine carcinogenic? | Answerbag
You're right. I made the mistake of saying nicotine when it is responsible for the addictive qualities of tobacco, but not its cancer risk.

Thanks for your correction.

I suppose, instead of getting that brand new, big screen TV that you don't really need............you will take the moral high road and give that money to a charity.......right?

Hypocrite much?

I've been rolling my own cigarettes for 8 years now, and I'm completely oblivious to the price of a pack of cigarettes today. Only the laziest smokers buy cigarettes from a store.

When they added that huge tax on a one pound bag of cigarette tobacco, at $42 a bag, I switched to smooth cigar tobacco bags at $14, hardly notice the difference.

I'm still smoking for less than $1 a pack.

Just watch and see! The pendulum has swung to and fro in this countries many times. The questions is, where will the resurgence of smoking take place?

My guess: where it all started! California! All it will take for monkey-see-monkey-do Californian is to hear their most idolized actor/actress declare smoking is now hip, and the smog will get thicker in L.A. real fast!

What does it mean to pay $11 per pack of cigarettes?

It means cigarettes have become too expensive and it's time to quit.

Me? I quit when they cost $2.25/pack and I thought that was way too high...

we now make our own. Get an injector ( about $40) a box of 200 tubes cost around $1.90 and use pipe tobacco(around $8) and a carton will cost you around $8-10. I've got to the point I can roll a pack in about 10 minutes and we find we smoke less but still dont feel like we are rationing ourselves. You use pipe tobacco because it is not taxed like the cig tobacco is.

A pack costs $14 here I think?

I don't smoke but I do like Skoal Straight. It runs me $22-$25 per tin!

6 pack of Bud costs $14.

Fuel? Today its $3.60/gallon (cheap vs other places in Canada)

Haha sorry I'm just thinking of the costs here, my cell phone bill hasnt been under $150 in 4 months!

All of these are heavily taxed except cell companies (regulation..) as far as I know. Here you can only buy alchohol at a liquor store and tabacco products can only be bought at gas stations and tabacco stores. Can you believe they have actually BANNED cigarillos? I guess the flavors are too inviting for underage kids, yet you need to be 18 to purchase them. It really drives me crazy.

The government doesn't care if anyone smokes. They are only targeting who they can for taxes. Next they will go after someone else...looks like the new trend is going after people who are over-weight. Of course, maybe if the fat people smoked they would eat less.

If a smoker would let himself be controlled and manipulated by "the man" like that, then who cares. It's their choice. I used to smoke, but it will be a cold day in hell before I'll either crouch in a doorway in the dead of winter to smoke, or pay outrageous taxes to smoke either. I won't be used like that.

Current cigarette taxes are exorbitant, akin to usery.

Just as in the days of prohibition, bootleg cigarettes will soon be readily available. Sounds good to me.
