5500 into VASGX (aggressive and diversified Fund-of-Funds), in a Roth IRA right away.

$4,500 + the $5500 that I would have put into the IRA anyways, I would put into a checking account (slush/emergency fund) or a traditional IRA (to lower taxable income). If those are filled or I don't need a trad IRA, then I would buy individual stocks which have a proven long-term growth pattern(100 minimum) and sell covered calls for the premiums. If the stock gets called away, I collect the gain + the premium and the only losing hand occurs if the stock tanks and doesn't regain its value (or if it goes way up in value, I'd be kicking myself, momentarily...)

Let's see, if I was walking down the street and found a bag with $10,000 in it, and 90 days later the police said no one had claimed it, I'd:

1. Put $2,500 into my savings immediatley.

2. Put $2,500 into my brokerage account immediatley.

3. Pay $2,500 extra principal payment on my mortage immediatley.

4. Set aside $2,500 and take the wife and kids to Florida next fall.

Add to my CD, and wait for the next market crash to load up.

^ You would be better off with an actual Compact Disk which has investment value (like Signed Jimmy Hendrix). Good luck with a Certificate of Deposit...

Who needs luck when you are getting over 3%. Smart people make smart choices.

Ha, now that would be an easy-to-spot fraud. Jimi Hendrix was dead long before Compact Disks were invented.

Similar to Teckeee, but I've been putting my cash in Money Market Mutual Funds since 2009. When the market crashes, I will transfer it to my Stock Mutual Funds.

IF you already own a house, and IF your car is paid for, and IF you have no credit card debt, and IF you have no student loan debt, and IF you have several months income stored up in an insured savings account, I would consider reading "The Richest Man in Babylon" and applying the principles outlined in the book.
