Cut wages as they are doing. Corporation CEOs don't need growing corporations to become wealthy. All they need is access to the Central Banks' teller windows and they get all the money they want.
I think your question is loaded with assumptions. Corporations exist by free association. No one coerces anyone to either work for them, or buy things from them. Do you charge your employer for your time? Are you leaching of your employer? There are certainly abuses. But there are abuses with every realm, family or government, and organized religion.
Lets address your hypothesis.
Its a big hypothesis. How could such world come to be? It would ONLY be possible, if every single individual was self reliant, hard working and capable of adding great value to himself and to society.
At that level of self reliance and economic productitvity, large corporations would likely not exist. There would be very little incentive to. Everyone already has a high standard of living as you say, things are super expensive, because things cannot be made by exploiting cheaper labor.
You would live in a world where you would have to do everything by yourself. Because it would be too expensive to hire anyone to do it.
You would make everything you need with your own hands, or buy from someone whose high standard of living also will need to be compensated.
Your T -shirt, for e.g., would have to be made by your with your loom, or you would need to spend 100 dollars. assuming it cost someone 2 hours of their time. Say at 50 buck/ hr.
The big point here is, that the exploitation you rail about is something every one of us leeches of.
The corporations that cannot compete will be replaced by corporations that can compete.
A fact realized by every CEO and business owner. Every company/business is competing against all others in their field.
It is either excel and lead, or you will be left behind and that will lead to failure. Businesses are not there to provide jobs and welfare to their employees and other companies, no matter how good or how bad they are doing.
They are not there to provide jobs for people they do not need. They are there to make a profit after they pay all expenses including employees. They are not there to be a tax paying machine for the governments involved. They are there to make a profit period. That is the only reason they exist. They know without a profit, they will cease to exist.
You're really talking about a very small number of large corporations like Walmart. These corporations may not be as successful in the same manner as they are today. But the majority of corporations would function fairly as they do today.
I suppose they could always manufacture, market, and sell derivatives and swaps. They could massively leverage up their market capitalization and payout the people at the top in a LIFO fashion. They could also take advantage of foreign exchange rates, tax laws, and labor.
They will hire robots. In the future robots can have an IQ of 120, I would be afraid to complain too much. I wouldn't vilify corporations.
LOL-and where would the consumers come from?
Can robots be trained to spend money on crap they don't need?
