Alt-A is much bigger than subprime and is going to cause much more distress...

but now that the US government owns all bad debts in the system it will just go on the country's balance sheet.

You must of missed it... the government is buying ALL of those loans pretty soon... the companies are avoiding going bankrupt because of it so that tax paying americans can file bankruptcy for them... isn't it great? I love paying more for crap... and then filing bankruptcy to save AIG and such...

So when does the Federal Reserve go bankrupt? Those toxic loans are not worth even 1/2 of what they are written as. Is the Government going to be in charge of the liquidation of them? To me this is just a delay to an even worse crisis.
