This happened in Great Britain and some of the terms are different from US terms but the sentiment is the same. Our students are so much more than their test results.

You bet they are.

Rachel Tomlinson understands that.

The current test mania is one of the major problems with our education system. Unfortunately no one seems to be concerned to the point that they'll take it seriously and reform.

I don't think educators know what needs to be done to improve the overall results. Apparently, what was done in the past didn't work or something new would not have been put in place... or would it? Since I finished getting a high school diploma, it seems like each year some big change is made and didn't do as expected. So they keep practicing.

Not that it's only in education. Government seems to fit the same description, but that's another story.

That's because the pressure to change is almost purely political, and corporate education reform is simply someone's (or some group's) agenda to improve their own standing.

Anyways, this is a beautiful letter. One could only hope that more administrators, schools, and teachers follow in its example.

The people that take it seriously everyday and realize it's a problem are teachers.
But guess who makes decisions about education at the state level? Not teachers.

Politicians who rely on donations from big corporations for re election should not be making education policy especially about content. I don't want some old geezers who haven't been in school in 40 years determining what my kids will be taught or how.

Very touching and heartfelt letter and should be printed and posted in every parent's home.

Could not agree more...on ALL of the above!

It seems so obviously reasonable, doesn't it?
