NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A new bill could require high school seniors in Tennessee to pass a civics test before they receive their diplomas.
In the bill filed on Capitol Hill, high school seniors must correctly answer 60 of the 100 questions. It's also the test immigrants take before they become United States citizens.
I've never heard of a school that somewhere along the line didn't teach a unit about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Supreme Court, the three branches of government, voting rights, and so forth. If Tennessee schools are doing what every other school in the country is doing, this should be a no-brainer long before the kids are seniors in high school.

So? Civics is required in most states, and a score of 60 (basically, a "D") should be a piece of cake. They're tested in their HS Civics class, so what's the problem with one more test, like a review?
I'm all for it. I guarantee there are a startling number of all Americans that could not get 60 on this test. Probably , many of them who "know all about the constitution" and fly Gadsden flags in the front yard.
Typically, I have a big problem with legislators tacking additional requirements onto school. But I have no problem with this.
