Teacher will not let student into class until he has a psychological evaluation because of a Halloween drawing he made in art class. I think the wrong person got the psychological evaluation. That teacher needs to see a shrink.
Oh gimme a break....gang member in 5th grade?! Why wouldnt the teacher just listen when the kid told her it was a vampire?
Vampire=blood. DUH!
Not only that, a 5th grade gang member who might have killed EIGHT people!
Reminds me of a note I got when my son was in 4th grade and drawing "scary" pictures.. no, they didn't go to that extreme but they did think he was possibly "disturbed". Whatever. He was just a boy fascinated with scary stuff!
this type of nonsense is the result of things like "sensitivity training" and "zero tolerance" policies with which schools have been infected in recent years. independent thought, judgment, and common sense have clearly all gone out the window, but i wouldn't be too hard on the teacher, as i'm sure it took several years in-service training to make her this stupid.

When I was in third grade, we were shown a video on gangs, and warned not to join one; our teacher told us that kids start joining gangs as young as kindergarten. It completely freaked me out; I was scared of gangs for years.
That said, the kid was asked to draw a scary mask. Looking too deeply at the number of blood droplets as representative of the number of murders he committed is a bit silly (but not out of the realm of possibility).
I see nothing wrong with the pic, teacher did overreact and it should've stopped with the principal.
But it is not a reach in some areas for 5th graders to have been exposed to gangs, throw gang signs and know the symbols and what they stand for. Depends on the area.
I'm completely baffled by this story. I also see nothing wrong with the pic. I understand it's a vampire, but even if it were a gang member with drops of blood signifying kills, what would it matter? He was asked to draw something scary and gang members are scary too. Either way you look at it, it's ridiculous. I think that perhaps the teacher and the admin that went along with her may need a psychological evaluation.
