EL-PASO, TEXAS RANKED 4th ON THE LIST OF LEAST LITERATE CITIES!!

El Paso ranked in the bottom 10 of all cities in four of the six categories measuring literacy. Notably, El Paso ranked dead last for the total number of bookstores — independent, used, rare and retail — relative to the population of the city. In addition, the city ranked third from the bottom in terms of publication circulation and among the bottom in terms of newspaper circulation. Educational attainment in El Paso was also among the bottom 10 major cities. Just 76.4% of El Paso adults had at least a high-school education in 2011, compared to 85.9% of the United States as a whole. Meanwhile, only 22.5% of adults had a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to 28.5% of the population.

City leaders must do something to change this!

Did they count Spanish-language newspaper circulation? The newspaper readership figures would probably be higher if they had.

America’s Most (and Least) Literate Cities - 24/7 Wall St.

And if it makes the OP feel any better, San Antonio was #6 on that list too.

This is by newspaper readership, however. Many bookstores are going out of business (I use Amazon.com more frequently, anyway). I have a Master's degree and read books, but if they counted my NEWSPAPER readership, I would be illiterate, too.

Yeah that sounds about right. We have, what 2 Barnes and Noble stores, the Book Rack out on Yarborough, and then I'm blank.

My intentions were not to bash El Paso, as someone here thinks! I just wanted to make a point that city leaders of El Paso need to help with the issue of El Paso being 4th ON THE LIST OF LEAST LITERATE CITIES!

That being said, Sorry for hurting your feelings... I think that if you don't live in El paso, than you should not be in charge of "El Paso Forum"! Not calling anybody out!!

I suggest that city leaders start by viewing the following video on this link:

Sir Ken Robinson: Bring on the learning revolution! | Video on TED.com

Tell me what you think, will it be possible in El Paso?
