Will you watch the demolition of city hall (9am April 14) and the Asarco stacks (6:30am April 13)? It really feels like end of an era/new beginning for El Paso.

The DoubleTree hotel is offering a "Dreams to Reality" city hall demolition package for $300/room. Mexico will remove about 2,000 residents when the stacks come down.

I'd like to watch but from a distance. After 9/11 we know that the dust clouds are toxic and city hall was a crappily built building with asbestos and who knows what. (I don't mourn the loss of city hall, good riddance, I just have doubts about it's replacement and the stadium deal).

Default Bring a chemical respirator!

I would not want to be anywhere near the Asarco demolition. That thing spewed arsenic and lead for decades and I'm sure some residue will hitch a ride on the dust.

Yet remember a sizable contingent of El Pasoans wanted it reopened because of all the supposed "good-paying jobs"(i.e. decent paying blue-collar jobs) that would have resulted? Good grief.

Why not just sit in the comfort of your home and watch it on TV or the internet? I feel certain it will be aired endlessly after it occurs. On an interactive site like YouTube you can even stop the action and replay it yourself.
