I know there are a lot of restrictions on travel, and it is kind of getting annoying, but I understand why they are put into place. Anyways, one of my friends recently traveled through El Paso on the way to Norther New Mexico. He is reassuring me that I won't get stuck in El Paso or have any issues, but what does he know, he does not live in El Paso.

I want to take a road trip from Arizona to El Paso for 1 night. I just need a weekend getaway. Things are getting a little stressful at work and road trips is one of my ways of preventing burnout. I just want to travel 1 night, leave Saturday, and come back Sunday. My friend promises me that I won't get stuck there. But maybe he got lucky. My question is, are there any travel restrictions in New Mexico and in El Paso? Would I get stuck in El Paso and be prevented from driving back? Are there coronavirus checkpoints through I-10? My biggest fear is the way back, because there is a border patrol checkpoint 22 miles outside of Las Cruces in the direction of Tucson, the next major city after El Paso on I-10 West. Are they turning people around at the checkpoint and not letting people go past it due to the Coronavirus? Is there a high chance I'll get turned around and sent back east? Do I need to bring documentation that I live in Arizona? Do I need to bring my passport and any other documents?

Please let me know if there are travel restrictions.

Thanks.

If you asked the El Paso city and county government they would tell you not to come. Legally if you social distance and stay out of state and city parks which are closed there isn't much that can be done to you. I have no idea what the border patrol checkpoints are doing in regards the Covid. Post on the New Mexico board as far as what New Mexico is doing.

Drivers license and insurance is all you would need if you are a USA citizen.

Tension is building up with many because of all the restrictions and want them to be lifted. And there just as many that feel the restrictions should stay in place and would say what you are wanting to do is irresponsible and selfish. Such is the worls we live in currently.

Make the drive and book a hotel on the west side of town. Wear a face shield when you check in. Wash your hands once you are in your room. You are all set.

I'm planning on staying at an airbnb where you have the entire place and no contact with anyone. You are given the code to enter.

So it sounds like it may be fine to go, but I just need to check on the Border Patrol Checkpoint issue. I'm planning on relaxing anyways. It would only be for 1 night.

No. Actually it looks like things are loosening. Bike and walking trails we'll be reopened.
