The Sun Bowl Assoc. Should pick Pittsburgh over Notre Dame. Notre Dame isnt the same team as it was a decade ago. That's my take on it.

That absolutely happened and I am glad you remember. This was before the BCS and all the conference tie ups. They chose to stay home instead of playing in the Sun Bowl.
We don't need a 6-6 team in the Sun Bowl. We used to get two top 20 teams before the current BCS and conference contracts. Why would we want a .5000 team when we can have the second place team out of the Big East?
Don't tell me ticket sales either. The Sun Bowl will sell 50K tickets this year regardless.

I agree no Notre Dame. Notre Dame is all hype. They haven't been good for years. Academically they aren't even #1 or 2 in their own state (Indiana & Purdue).
