Im being relocated from SC to El Paso because of my job. I know that there are a ton of posts for help on where to live, but I have a different situation. I will be living in TX but I will be training at the plant in Jaurez for 6 weeks going back and forth, then will be traveling all over the US for 6 weeks at a time with one week off. But will be going to Jaruez to talk to the engineers about how to improve the process on my week off. So in a nut shell I need advice on a close location to Airport, safe area, close location to border crossing. Any help would be awsome.

Thanks,

Joe

You definitely want to be on the east side if you are using the airport a lot. Commuting to Juarez you can live anywhere in El Paso but eastbound I-10 really backups in evening rush hour from the free bridge (I-10/Hwy 54 interchange) all the way out to Lee Trevino.

Are you single, married, with kids? This will help with replies.

Thanks for the reply Gary. I am a single guy, no kids with me, and looking for a desenct area. I have told by some of the other people who are relocating here that the east side is all spanish and that alot of the whites live in the west and upper valley, Is this tru? I dont really care about who I live next to we are all people but is there alot of racial tension in el paso?

Many people use 'white' incorrectly as many Hispanics are 'whites'. You can't go by appearances. Most of the expensive cars & SUVs are driven by Hispanics.

According to the Census Bureau:
El Paso County is 93% White, 82% Hispanic, and 14% White Not Hispanic.
City of El Paso is 73% White & 77% Hispanic.
west side Zipcode 79912 80% White and 55% Hispanic

You will have more in common with a Hispanic in your socio-economic class than you will with a 'white' of a different class & background.

On average, the west side does have higher incomes, higher education levels, and higher housing prices than other El Paso zips. This will vary by neighbourhood and there are 'low-rent/cars-on-blocks' neighbourhoods on the west side & wonderful and expensive neighbourhoods on the east side.

Great post Gary.

jk, as long as you don't freak out when you encounter people speaking Spanish, you will be just fine. I live on the eastside, and I never encounter Spanish. That is not to say that there is not a lot of Spanish being spoken but I don't encounter. I wouldn't care if I did. In the NE, when I do encounter it, the people always talk to me in English.

If you're going to be gone for 6 weeks at a time and here for one week to be in Juarez, there's also an airport in Juarez and it might be easier just living over there but if I were you, I'd find an apartment or duplex near the airport near Hwy 54.

The Fairmont is a high rise of condo's - only occasionally will a rental unit become available. It's "above" the downtown area and just a couple of blocks to the university. Proximity to the airport is maybe 12-14 miles or so - to Juarez, depends on which bridge you will be using.
