I would just like to see a president (or any elected official) who's willing to put the best interests of the country before his personal viewpoints, pet projects or partisanship.

As a non politician Trump may just be the one that can work both sides to the benefit of everyone.

Ron Paul would bring us closer to a government as dictated by our Constitution. Maybe it's his time.

Herman Cain is another successful businessman and would be great. It would be fun to watch the MSM & the left try to deal with him.

the seven people who have voted for Ron Paul are blowing smoke.

I picked Mitt because it is his "turn" and the republicans like the "its his turn" guy.

As for him being able to beat Obama, I still belive Obama has a 55% chance of winning reelection because
1. We generally reelect sitting presidents
2. the economy will really have to work hard to still be bad by August of next year.

That being said, if the economy is in the tank and unemployment is above 8% whom ever the republicans nominate will win so long as there is no third party challenge from the likes of Palin or Trump.

I really don't think the Republicans will go for the "its his turn" this time. They certainly didn't with GW.

I'm thinking the Republicans choose McCain because they thought it was the Democrats turn last time.

If they thought about that one at all.

If they are going to be able to be competitive they will need to get away from the gay bashing, and come up with a candidate who hasn't gone down that route.

Spewing hate (which is what you said and Huckabee's comments are) is not going to get anywhere outside of the GOP base. Picking on the gays is going to be a turn off to the rest of the country.

Aside from that I don't see Huckabee running, he really has shown very little signs over the past few months that he will run.

I agree. I really am not sure he was serious, but regardless, you don't say something like that and expect to be elected to the top job in the world.
