John Huntsman has virtually no chance of winning the Republican nomination, but has broad appeal to those of us who are Independents. He is not anti-science as the other Republican Candidates seem to be and seems to be moderate on most social issues while fiscally conservative.

I think he may have a chance to win as an Independent.

Well that would certainly be better than just having two to choose from. Out of the entire Republican field, I like Huntsman the best, but because he does not appeal to the far right he has no chance at the nomination; however only 20% of the Republicans are far right and only 20% of the democrats are liberal. That could leave Huntsman with 60% of the vote. That would be a landslide.

Huntsman could do that, it would be political suicide. He would be better off to become a Democrat and run next time around.

How would it be political suicide? The problem with running as a democrat is that he is not a democrat. He is not even a conservative democrat (blue dog). Blue dogs are conservative on social wedge issues such as abortion, gay marriage, and evolution in the schools. That is not Huntsman. He is clearly a Republican. Just not as far right as the new age republicans pandering to an extreme right.

He would be an excellent independent candidate. There are many Republicans who think the Tea Party is nutty and are not Christian Fundi's. There are many Democrats who care about cutting spending. Well that is Huntsman. He could get the moderate vote and let the two extremes watch from the sideline. He has the best credentials on Foreign Relations and he has the highest rankings of all Governors from Pew Research (conservative think tank). He is the most qualified of all the candidates and he is a moderate.

There are democrats...not many, who are conservative on social issues also. He fits in with the democratic party and their voters better than with Republicans. There is a reason that the posters on this site that like and relate to him are mostly Obama supporters.

If he runs as an independent, the GOP will be through with him. So he would have to know that he will remain an independent without their support from now on. I don't think he wants to do that. He is goofy but he ain't that dumb.

Huntsman is more along the lines of an old school Republican. Fiscally conservative, socially moderate and well he is actually sane unlike much of the rest of the field. I disagree with Huntsman on many issues, and wouldn't vote for him in the General, but he can actually discuss the issues without the asinine hateful and crazy rhetoric (and well ideas as well) the others spout off.

He would have a better chance at running as a Democrat he's too Liberal to be a Republican in the first place.

Huntsman is far too rationale and logical in this explosive atmosphere of six shooters and gun slingers to have much of an impact.

He is a creative man with a brilliant mind----he could do a great job----it is just doubtful he could appeal to a broad base of voters.

Who is lining up for Huntsman? The guy has minus zero in polling. No one is interested in him. On the other hand, he might make a good Sec of State, and IMO that's what he's really running for.
