Am currently registered as Independent. When I first registered to vote, I choose Independent because I felt I didn't know enough about politics to declare a party nor even vote. For local and state elections, we vote in a weird system. All potential candidates run at the same time. If no one got more than 50% of the vote, then the top two candidates are in a runoff. So why bother declaring myself for a party? For presidential primaries, that race is usually decided by a few states, long before my home state and many other states have had a voice or vote in the primaries. So why bother declaring myself for a political party. I'd love to see the presidential primary be changed at a federal level.
1. All presidential primaries must be held on the same day throughout the nation. That would give all 50 states a voice in the primary.
2. Closed primary. No more allowing people of any political party voting on the primary of their choice. This was apparent in the previous presidential primary by democrats who thought Hillary would easily win the primary and so they voted for the republican candidate they felt was easiest to beat.

Until this happens, I'll remain independent.
