Wisconsin Recap: Thanks to Obama, American Left Lies in Smoldering Wreckage « naked capitalism

Quote:
Up and down the ticket, Democrats are operating under the shadow of the President, associated with unpopular policies that make the lives of voters worse and show government to be an incompetent, corrupt handmaiden to big business.

With these policy choices, Obama destroyed the Democratic Party and liberalism – under Obama’s first two years, the fastest growing demographic party label was “former Democrat.”

I noted at the time in a piece titled “Why Is the Left Slice of the Democrats Getting Crushed?” that this is a consequence of Obama’s policies and a general discrediting of liberalism.
Obama is the leader of the democrat party, which has lurched so far left we now are seeing a far reaching repudiation of their ideas and policies.

I remember the pundits claiming after the 2008 elections that liberalism/democrats would rule for the next 30 years.

But once the American people got a load of exactly what these progressives led by obama were really up to, that "transformation" got stopped in it's tracks with the 2009, 2010 and 2012 elections.

Article from Aug 2011..but boy, does it apply even more today.

The Progressive Crisis | Via Meadia

Quote:
That he’s asking these questions at all is a testament to the colossal failure of Democrat hopes in the aftermath of the 2008 presidential election. The “transformational President” failed to bring about the Great Realignment Democrats thought they saw. Healthcare was a poisoned chalice; the debt ceiling bill was a disaster.
Conservative should thank obama/liberals for bringing them back in from the wilderness..due to their policies, ideas and behavior that is so out of touch with the vast majority of Americans.

President Obama, I have frequently argued, has been fabulous for the conservative movement. He spurred the creation of the tea party. He helped the GOP win the House majority in 2010 and make big gains in the Senate. His Obamacare has helped revive the Commerce Clause and given a boost to conservative jurisprudence.

The same was said of the republicans after the 2008 election.

Both parties are like cockroaches...they never get eradicated.

I like this from the Washington Post link in the OP:

"As Ross Douthat wrote, “House Republicans have spent the past two years taking tough votes on entitlement reform, preparing themselves for an ambitious offensive should 2012 deliver the opportunity to cast those same votes and have them count. The Senate Democrats, on the other hand, have failed to even pass a budget: There is no Democratic equivalent of Paul Ryan’s fiscal blueprint, no Democratic plan to swallow hard and raise middle class taxes the way Republicans look poised to swallow hard and overhaul Medicare. Indeed, there’s no liberal agenda to speak of at the moment, beyond a resounding ‘No!’ to whatever conservatism intends to do. Not even Jimmy Carter did this much, I would suggest, to jerk his party to the left and hobble its electoral prospects. No wonder Clinton is on a rampage."

That would be Bill. Hillary is just as much a lefty as Obama.

But, I don't blame Obama. Obama was always this guy. The problem was the people who went and voted for him with eyes wide shut aided by the same liberal media now picking away at him. All ideology aside, you guys voted for a guy and propped up a guy with zero experience running anything with a head full of lefty academic horsecrap that he wanted to try out on a country and now you are all critical because he's going all Obama on you and actually doing it. And by the way, the only thing different about him and McCain is the academic horsecrap part because McCain (and Hillary) also had zero experience running anything.

This is true, although some of us realized from the very beginning his roots in radicalism that he so successfully hid with the help of the MSM.

Obama being too far left seems to only be the opinion of the right wing.

Swaths of the left wing have written him off as a bought and paid for big business schill that rolls over on everything, which is precisely what he is.

Part of why things like OWS even exist is because there are huge factions of the left that dont believe that the current Democratic party is remotely far enough left, and isnt adequately serving or protecting the people.

The American left which once stood for bettering American society (voting for women, civil rights, unions that worked for actual fixing of real problems, actual environmental issues) has gone batsheet crazy in the last 15 yrs..... protecting pornograghers, manufacturing phony wars (like the one on women, the one on old folks, the one on the poor etc.), diverting peoples attention with all the lies and deceit..... anybody with a brain can't take them seriously anymore

This was once the party of Kennedy, Johnson, FDR etc. who had ideas.... the party has been reduced to one of hate.... hate of anybody who disagrees with their ideology

Very sad

Hope & Change, the change jingling in your pocket is all you'll have left when Obama and his far left allies get through with you.
