In an interview with Newsmax Friday, Romney expressed support for a path to citizenship for children of illegal immigrants who serve in the military OR HOLD ADVANCED DEGRESS. Watch:

Romney Appears To Change Position On DREAM Act | TPM2012

So, Romney's gone from "Let them self-deport", to "citizenship for military service", to "citizenship for college students"?

As a liberal, I salute Romney's "evolution" on this topic, but I doubt "the base" shares my enthusiasm! Is it too soon to say "We told you so"?

For the record, Romney's people say he "misspoke" in the interview...

I report- YOU decide!

He might as well stay where is at on the issue. He has already lost that vote. More flip flopping is only going to make matters worse.

Everything you conservatives despise, is fixing to come to light under the name Republican.

What do you expect when you have 2 progressives to choose from.

You have been fed a hoax.

He said they should be given permanent legal residence - not citizenship - if they get an advanced degree or serve in the military. This is not even close to what the DREAM Act calls for. This is actually exactly what he called for at NALEO, in addition to encouraging legal immigration and making legal immigration easier for the family members of current legal immigrants.

How is that snobbish? He's saying the brightest young illegals (i.e. the ones who are most likely to contribute positively to the country) should be able to stay in the country. He's also saying the ones willing to serve the country should be able to remain. This makes a lot of sense.

He didn't flip flop on this...as I said in my first post on this thread. Obviously, Romney isn't going to win the Hispanic vote. He does need to try and get 35% of it or so, which he can do, and will be more than enough to win if Obama can't even get 40% of the white vote (Obama is polling in the mid 30's among whites). Even after Obama has announced his recent pro-illegal policies, he's still polling in the mid 60's among Hispanics.

Romney needs to tout his immigration plan among Hispanic voters, highlighting his support of LEGAL immigration. His plan is not nearly as generous to illegal aliens as Obama's, so he can still tout it with those who are anti-illegal immigration.

He also needs to talk about how the Obama economy is negatively impacting Hispanics specifically (and it is having more of a negative effect on Hispanics than on the population as a whole) and about his family and how he is a good husband/father/grandfather (family is very important to Hispanics).

When isn't Romney signaling a shift? The etch-a-sketch man is always at work.

If it's a new day, it's a new position, right?

No Nation would trust the word of the US if Romney were CIC.
