Rachel Maddow Kills the Romney/Ryan Medicare Lie Dead In its Tracks

Rachel Maddow derailed Lowry in a matter of seconds on Medicare. As soon as she spotted the inconsistency in Lowry’s talking point, Maddow pounced and it was all over for Rich Lowry. As Maddow expertly revealed Republicans have to keep the conversation on Medicare superficial, because their whole talking point falls apart as soon as it is scrutinized in the slightest.

So Republicans are going to try to sell America on the idea that the Medicare privatization plan that Romney endorsed isn’t really Romney’s plan? That unpopular thing about the vouchers? That’s all Paul Ryan. Not us, no sir. Mitt Romney would never ever implement the plan that he endorsed and urged the Senate to pass. That is seriously going to be the Republican strategy on Paul Ryan’s Medicare voucher plan.

The Republican strategy across the Sunday talk shows has been to bash Barack Obama for Paul Ryan’s Medicare cuts, while claiming that Mitt Romney doesn’t really support his own running mate’s voucher plan for Medicare. Seriously, that is their whole argument.

1. Bush and the Republicans in Congress create "Medicare Advantage." It's a way for private companies to compete with government money to provide Medicare services,
under the theory that business is more cost effective than government. It does not affect Medicare recipients at all, only who the government pays the costs.

2. Surprise! Medicare Advantage actually costs MORE than regular Medicare, meaning that the government has to pay more money for the same care. Turns out
government is more efficient than business after all. US deficit goes up to pay for it.

3. Obama proposes healthcare. To avoid Republican attacks that the bill is too expensive, Obama includes cutting the wasteful Medicare Advantage spending in the bill.
This has no impact on seniors, only private companies who will no longer be able to milk taxpayers.

4. Despite Obama making the health care bill pay for itself, Republicans attack it as "too expensive." They also attack Obama for "cutting Medicare," and creating "death panels."

5. Paul Ryan creates a budget that cuts Medicare Advantage spending and eliminates Medicare entirely, replacing it with a voucher system that is not enough to meet the needs of
most seniors. EVERY Republican in Congress votes for it.

6. Republicans and biased fact checkers complain that it is "unfair" for Democrats to run ads attacking Ryan's budget as ending Medicare, even though it ends Medicare.

7. Romney picks Ryan as his running mate.

8. Romney says Ryan's budget plans aren't relevant because he'll release his own budget as President. He doesn't say what the details will be.

8. Romney flip flops, says that Ryan's medicare plan doesn't matter Obama was the one that attacked Medicare by cutting Medicare Advantage.

9. Romney flip flops AGAIN, says that Ryan's budget actually strengthens Medicare by INCREASING Medicare Advantage spending, even though it actually cuts such spending, and destroys the program entirely.

Republican voters are dumb. Just dumb! President Obama reduced programs that gave subsidies to insurers and rebates to pharmaceutical companies, put the money back into Medicare as direct benefit payments, and increased the program's solvency until 2024. As for Paul Ryan . . . he uses President Obama's SAME MEDICARE ADVANTAGE CUTS to reduce taxes for the wealthy. Read the health care law and read Paul Ryan's budget. THERE ARE FACTS INSIDE OF THEM SOMEWHERE!

I'm sick of ignorant people, with 8th grade educations, trying to explain health care policy. Get a hs diploma!

Can you say quid pro quo
White House officials caught out with lobbyists - Telegraph
Aides to President Barack Obama used personal email accounts to contact pharmaceutical companies and deliberately scheduled meetings in coffee shops away from the White House in order to skirt disclosure rules

Mr Messina promised "I will roll [Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi] for the 4 billion" needed to fund expansion of health care coverage. Mr Messina also promised the lobbyist he would deal with a reporter who had been questioning the White House's links with the pharmaceutical industry.

I don't think very many progs actually watched this program, including the op. Typical.

anyone who makes such an uneducated statement as this is the one who lacks education. Comrade obama has done nothing of the kind, he has you fooled like a lot of the other left wing loons. and now you say that your sick of yourself, truly a sad case..
There is not one word in your entire rant that has a ring of truth. You should be embarrassed to open you mouth when you are so completely clueless...
Now we all know about you.... another one of those kind of people...

Enjoy playing with your Christmas present, because by the time you open it in December, we will have a new, law biding President ready to take office and save the country from the corrupt Chicago thug.
Repeat after me, s l o w l y.. President Romney, just kind of rolls off the tongue. Feels good, doesn't it...?
