A week and a half has passed since Mr. Romney’s remarks became known to the public — meaning that there’s been enough time to evaluate their effect on the polls.
There’s a case to be made that they did damage Mr. Romney’s standing some.
In the chart below, I’ve tracked the progress of the national popular vote in the FiveThirtyEight “now-cast” over the past five weeks. The “now-cast” reflects our best estimate of what would happen in an election held today, based on a combination of recent national and state polls. Unlike our Nov. 6 forecast, the “now-cast” does not account for economic measures, and it does not adjust for the effect of the party conventions. This makes it a little bit more straightforward to interpret in terms of tracking the progress of the polls in real time. Source
You know, when this first surfaced I thought it would be a minor flap like that Obama "clinging to guns & religion" comment, but apparently this was a defining moment in the camapign.
Another poster made the comment that it was like Dukakis and the tank. Another example would be the Howard Dean "yell" or maybe Muskie crying on the flatbed in front of the Manchester Union-Leader (for those of you with long political memories).
The term "harvest" actually has a technical definition in the investing world -- though it did not appear to be what Romney was referencing. A so-called "harvest strategy" is one in which investors use a mature business as a cash cow to fund other enterprises.Source
I don't doubt that. However, like many other terms which have different meanings depending on context (such as "handler" or "performance", the average American is likely to think of "harvesting" cadavers for organs. Once again Mitt will be on the defensive trying to explain his remarks.
It's a huge problem for him because these videos along with the absolutely asinine and misguided public statements by his wife paint a picture of him as a guy who not only has no clue how working people live but who genuinely could not care less.

Once enough wind hit the sails the whole thing just cascaded. Romney actually fanned the flames by sticking to it.
He seems to have no instinct for political self preservation.

The simple fact is that Romney was a predatory capitalist. We knew that already and these videos and his comments just add more support to the argument. This guy keeps claiming that he knows how to create jobs, but it appears what he most knows how to do is squeeze money out of companies and make himself and his friends rich while screwing working people.
This Wall St/Gordon Gecko mentality of getting rich quick while ruining other peoples lives while you're wrapped up in a fancy suit is exactly what destroyed the economy in the first place.
What's really interesting is that so many regular slobs who have to drive their pickup trucks to work every day in some podunk town in Alabama still think this guy is "their" guy, even after all this.
This is the guy who is supposed to "jump-start" the economy and facilitate job creation, right? Same guy?
