This is cool. You changed over time, based on real observations. Good for you. Most people don't really change based on information. They make sure of that.

I grew up in a fundamentalist family, staunch conservative. Went to a Christian College, and we used to sit around raving against gays, athiests, and the ACLU, but eventually I decided I did not like being told how to think. Also, I learned some of my friends were gay, I was not, and I no longer found it very threatening or interesting to try to judge them. Went into science and traveled the world. Both convinced me that all the self-righteous hokum I learned as a boy was not really true. Decent people live all around the world, the USA does not have everything wired, and there is no way the earth is 7,000 years old. Or that Noah stuffed a million plus species on a boat. I never became an atheist, but I could see why someone would want to pitch the whole religion thing. 9/11 showed me what monsters religious fundamentalism can create. I went from waiting or the Rapture to becoming also increasingly concerned with sustainability and human rights/opportunity. Namely that we don't screw the pooch for our kids and turn into haves and have nots chasing money and/or awaiting the Apocalypse. I like money as much as the next guy, but I don't want to live in a gated community surrounded by squalor. I want the whole systems to be solid. People with talent and character don't need to dominate and oppress. They desire to serve. I think that a healthy society can only happen through public and private investment, and when a wealthy person, rather than becoming more greedy, gives back to the society that helped them build wealth. Everytime we have pursued laissez faire policies, it has created tremendous inequality, political sleaze, and instability. So, I have changed from far right to center left.

I think Canada and the Scandinavian countries strike me as ideals, where a strong work ethic, skilled work force, science, religious tolerance, and concern for all of society are pursued. They are some of the finest places to live in the world. They care for their people and the environment, and their economies are doing fine. I think we could move in their directions, with many benefits and relatively few costs.

No, they did not.

Neanderthals had bigger brains.

Lotta good it did them, though.

Not sure it's DNA but i think it's the lack of greed, elitism and bigotry that is the reaon to be a Liberal.

If you truly think there's a war on women, you are simply brainwashed.

Not sure. I went from a Socialist to a strict individualist and very anti government of any kind...personal experience with government and the abuse of power helped me along...not sure what makes someone want more government.

I was joking, apparently your brain didn't detect this. Next time I'll include an emoticon.
