In case you weren't aware, this race was widely considered to be a gauge of the upcoming 2014 midterm elections:

Quote:
The implications of the dueling messages for the midterm elections inspired both parties to call in star advocates like President Bill Clinton and former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, in addition to blanketing the district with ads, calls and mailings. More than $11 million has been spent on the race, according to the Sunlight Foundation, a nonprofit group that tracks government information.

Jolly's election night headquarters erupted into loud cheers as it became clear he was the winner. Sink's party was subdued.

Also worth mentioning - Alex Sink was no sacrificial lamb. She was the Democrat nominee for governor in Florida in 2010.

Furthermore, David Jolly overcame a libertarian candidate who drew almost 5% of the vote. This district voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012.

The first of many defeats the Democrats richly deserve.

Does this mean a runoff? No one got 50%. I just noticed the counting has not finished yet.

No. Sink already conceded.

That seat has been Republican for many many many decades, not exactly a surprise.

Early on it was becoming obvious to everyone that tons of money was flowing into Florida to "buy" the office. This has worked in some of the North Eastern areas but the folks here are a tad bit smarter and did not fall for that trick.

It voted for Obummer in 2008 and 2012, so yeah it's a pleasant surprise.

Get ready for a lot more of this in November:

Yep. Sink and the OFA brigade outspent Jolly 3-1. Fortunately, the good people of Florida's 13th district saw through the lies of the Democrats. This time.

Ooooh! Way to deflect a crushing, unexpected loss.

Makes one wonder why the Democrats outspent Jolly 3-1 if they expected to lose. Perhaps the same morons behind Obamacare were running the Sink campaign. We can only hope.
