Following a previous white paper on immigration, Donald Trump has now released his official positions on guns and the Second Amendment, which can be found on his campaign website.

Trump breaks his positions on the issue to three major points:
1.Enforce the laws on the books
2.Fix our broken mental health system
3.Defend the rights of law-abiding gun owners

Pretty straight forward. Eliminate ATF should also be on the list!

Trump is proposing expanding mental health treatment. His staff should have noticed ACA/Obamacare already provides for that. Guess subsidies could be expanded so that it's affordable for everyone.

He also advocates for getting the mentally ill who are violent, a danger to themselves or to others, off the street. Sounds swell. Our jails and prisons are chock full of mentally ill, violent people. Guess we need more prisons. No doubt the private prison complex will be happy to help out.

Adam Lanza did not present as dangerous until the day he went off. No one, including his mama, saw that one coming.

Bottom line: This is straight out of the NRA Handbook.

No surprise and no reasonable way to make a dent in the proliferation of guns in the US.

This would work flawlessly, because most mass shooters never sought psychiatric help before the assault. But that's just details.

I think you all missed the purpose of it which is to reassure gun owners he's not coming after them if elected. He's said it but putting it in writing is more important considering his old positions.

I tend to think that was unnecessary since gun rights owners are already supporting him anyway. Was there any doubt that he would pick the standard GOP stance on this issue? I don't think there is even one GOP candidate that wants to implement a new gun control measure.

The "intelligence" Trump puts out is just his opinion--the same thing people do around water coolers--give an opinion. Still no policy, methods or plans. In other words, he has not said anything more than the average person on the street might say.

I'd hate to burst your bubble Trump lovers, but look at the last two quotes:

Dems and Reps are both wrong on guns

"It’s often argued that the American murder rate is high because guns are more available here than in other countries. Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only the law-abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed. The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions.

For assault weapon ban, waiting period, & background check

I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record.

Donald Trump on Gun Control

Trump is EXACTLY like a flip-flopping politician on this issue (and among many others).

Maybe not more prisons, but to reassure the prison industrial complex that there will plenty of potential occupants in line once the illegals are booted out.
