But I wasn't talking about States. I was talking about The State.
Your point is correct but irrelevant.
Not at all irrelevant, the way the Constitution is written, there is no separation between church and "state", in ANY matter, the separation is between church and CONGRESS...
The only thing limited States now from sponsoring religion is Supreme Court rulings, which may be justified, but not the intent of the founding fathers who DID have state churches at the time.. AGAIN

Right, a separation of Church and State is a separation of Church and Federal Government. The State is not the States.
You are right but youre arguing a point that isn't at stake.

The above is technically untrue. The colonies had a church( the church of England) but none of the states had a state church. They either required everyone to attend a church of their choosing( which only lasted 30 years in some cases) or they required you to be protestant to hold office(again, not lasting long into the creation of the nation and not really enforced). Only one state even funded a church, but that still wasnt the "Church of the state of Massachusetts "
The way this country is headed, we could use some positive religious influence, values, morals.....I'd definitely favor a candidate who demonstrated any of the above.
Obama is a great family man. Never been divorced. 2 great kids. A great wife.

Most states in early America had established churches Established Church: a church officially supported (and paid for) by the government Dissenters from established churches were tolerated but not always treated equally First Amendment originally limited only federal government, not state governments
These churches were the "official" religion in their colonies and were paid for by taxes collected by the government.
We even have a "national church", in Washington DC, which has received federal funding

He has shown a lot of kindness to his political opponents, pundits, critics......right you are.
