Ron Paul is the only candidate who is making any sense. He is being ignored by the media and doesn't have a great chance of winning the republican nomination. He makes too much sense to be a republican anyway. Should he forego the nomination and go in as an independent?

If he doesn't get the nom. I think he will. To much money coming in for him not to give it every shot he can. Pressure from his supporters will be to great. Wait until the results come in on Super Tuesday, then we'll see. I think he'll do fairly well.

I've thought for a while now that he would be the big third party guy this year.

It's just too expensive to run third party. He would need more money than he has raised just to get on all 50 ballots and probably wouldn't succeed at that.

Dr. Ron Paul would get less media coverage in a third-party... even less than he does today as a mainstream-party candidate :-(

A recommendation I have for the Ron Paul campaign is to right now, while there is still time as a Republican, grab a few primetime TV spots for 15 or 30 minute speeches in which he describes in a Ross Perot way (some charts/diagrams/presentation slides) what has been happening and the changes he'll bring forth. Why not even enlist the help of Ross Perot to orchestrate these since the two of them do seem to share some similar points of view? If Dr. Ron Paul did this I suspect the "who is this guy?" question that keeps coming up would finally be eliminated. I suspect if people, especially those who don't spend a lot of time on the Internet (or any time at all online), had more exposure to Ron Paul that would make a lot of difference.
