Trump's Republican critics pushing for GOP-backed takedown

WASHINGTON (AP) — Don't expect Democrats to take down Donald Trump. If the GOP's baffled establishment wants to dismiss their party's billionaire presidential front-runner, it appears they'll have to do it themselves.

Quietly pleased the brash real estate mogul and reality TV star has become the face of the modern-day GOP, Democrats who specialize in opposition research are holding their fire. Some leading Republicans, meanwhile, have grown increasingly concerned by Trump's staying power, leading to fresh calls for an organized takedown campaign to protect the party's image heading into 2016.

"At some point, the things he says go from being 'crazy old Donald Trump' to defining — this is how Republicans think and feel. And that's dangerous," said Katie Packer, who served as 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney's deputy campaign manager.

Packer says there is "some rumbling" about a well-funded anti-Trump campaign and offered a wake-up call to Republicans who assume Trump's candidacy will ultimately collapse. "Folks have to remember that lead changes don't just happen," she said. "Something causes them to happen."

Trump represents exactly the kind of party standard-bearer Republican officials wanted to avoid after a disastrous 2012 election in which minority voters — Hispanics in particular — overwhelmingly abandoned the GOP.

Trump is running a brilliant campaign.
He has been unpredictable and constantly demonstrating superior leadership at every turn. His position on some issues have been consistent over decades and his uplifting positive vision to put Americans first is a winning strategy. To be the underdog from the start. To be the front runner who's lead in the polls continues to improve making him a target for those who both want to tear him down personally and continue the decline of America to third world status. They want you to believe that by electing the same old politicians offering the same old stale cake with a different frosting will lead us to something different and better. That green covering on the cake isn't frosting. It's mold. These cookie cutter politicians need a new recipe. The American people need a new recipe and Trump is the blue ribbon ingredient that puts Americans back in the winners column.

Why is this a surprise? The Democrats, and the GOP establishment, know that a Trump nomination virtually guarantees a Democratic victory next November.

Little Miss All-The-Answers would be well served to remember that conservative backing for a candidate such as Donald Trump doesn't just happen either. 8 years ago he wouldn't have had a chance in hell and his campaign would have crashed and burned by now. 8 years later he has tapped into a disaffection around the country that normal pols and campaign managers such as Packer are unable to wrap their heads around.

I am not prepared to support Trump yet, but I will say this to Packer and candidates and media and GOP establishment - it is not up to ANY of you. It is up to the people of this country. You all can just shove it.

Being a politician is an emasculating job and I doubt the Donald will go all the way, the "Trump Brand" would be tarnished if it lent itself to a politician. When the little fat guy in North Korea tells him to go to hell and Putin Laughs in his face he can't fire them or do anything to them he'll just have to take it from them and a bunch more people. Some how there will be an exit strategy for the Donald when he's had his fun. His supporters are too gullible, after all they sent money to a man who brags about how much money he already has.

The Donald is going to beat them all and fundamentally change the party.

"Little Miss All-The-Answers... "

Is this how you refer to your fellow Republican? No wonder you people have such trouble with women. How utterly disrespectful. Katie Packer is on your side, which I sure as hell am not.
