Not exactly sure what's happening here, but it sounds like Trump has moved on from border walls to firewalls now.
Quote:
"We're losing a lot of people because of the internet," Trump said. "We have to see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand what's happening. We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas, closing that internet up in some ways. Somebody will say, 'Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech.' These are foolish people."
The "freedom of speech" bit speaks for itself, almost. Why poor Bill Gates is hauled out as the go-to guy for censoring the Internet is anyone's guess.
So now Trump opposes freedom of speech? And people still think this statist is a "conservative"?
What the hell is wrong with this man and his equally loony supporters? Is nothing sacred to him? Remember the quaint old days when Republicans stood for liberty and limited government?
Let me start first by saying, I will vote for Trump regardless of what party he represents.
Most of what he offers, I am onboard with.
Now to understand just where this man is getting all these ideas, which many think are crazy, one needs to understand where he is coming from.
He is coming from the ceo chair of a very large, and successful business.
I would speculate that many times in the operation of his real estate empire, he has called many meetings with operatives within the company structure to hash out differences, and go forward policies.
"We will do it this way", no wait a minute, maybe this is a better way", what do you think?"
Complete discussions, weighing all the alternatives.
Well, this is exactly what he is doing now in his campaign.
Problem is, he is doing it alone, with no one else in the board room to discuss the issues, and offer alternatives.
"I want this, I will do this", without the backing, or non-backing from anyone.
He is use to being the top dog when it comes to decision making, so, no need for him to feel he needs the "go ahead"from anyone but himself.
Now he has this newest idea to cap the internet.
His business savy tells him to contact someone in the field (in this case Bill Gates) in an effort to get the ball rolling on this proposal.
Unfortunately Bill Gates is not in a position to tell him anything about the internet.
It would be like asking Al Gore "the inventor of the internet" to pitch in with ideas.
Unfortunately this is a fallacy for Mr. Trump.
This one is never going to happen because it just can't be done.
In matters concerning the internet, it involves the entire world ,not just some "back yard" server in someone's garage, or basement.
This current proposal has not been thought through.
Mr. Trump is relying on his business experience to carry out all his plans, and some are worthy, while some are just plain undoable.
Hillary said the same thing regarding encrypted phones and the internet but hid her meaning behind her words. Where was the outrage on that ? "GO TRUMP"
What does Bill Gates have to do with the internet?
Oh, right... he was once CEO of a company that made a bunch of software, including search engines. So I guess he's the go-to guy when you want to-- um, 'close the internet'...
"Blah blah blah close the internet! Blah blah blah some guy associated with computers!"
[and the crowd of Trumpettes goes wild]
Now, that doesn't make a lick of sense. But then as I've said numerous times before, Trump knows his audience, and to them being logical - or, really, even merely coherent - isn't necessary.
This sounds like another of those stories where Trump didn't actually say what is being accused.
