As I suspected, Trump voters didn't turn out to the extent that the polls suggested they would. The disaffected voters who tell pollsters they love Trump are howling with rage, but they're not necessarily all that committed to wanting him to be president, and don't turn out as much as other voters do, which means that polls overestimate Trump's support.

Donald Trump's Iowa face plant was utterly predictable

I can't wait until he takes his ball and goes home!

A good quote from that link:

So much of his public persona is bound up with the idea that he wins everything, and that he is the frontrunner, the top guy, that everyone is eating his dust.

Cruz appealed to the Christian base and had a substantially better ground game than Trump in Iowa.

I will be very surprised if Cruz plays as well in NH.

autumn - how many more threads are you going to start? Obviously you hate Trump -we get that - but as far as popularity - with these shenanigans - you won't win any votes yourself.

.. and that's fine. But consider this

the difference between 1st place and 3rd place in Iowa is going to be like 4,000 voters. Iowa is really not that important as most people think.

Yeah, one delegate behind Cruz. What a face plant! NOT!

Clearly not a Trump supporter, but I have to say this...

Trump's face plant amounted to a 1 delegate loss to Cruz and a tie with Rubio. In my book all that matters is the number of delegates. The other thing is there was considerable reporting on the fact that Trump's organization was late and inexperienced when it came to the getting the ground operation established in Iowa. So, it should come as a surprise that Trump's polls didn't reflect turnout.

Personally, I think that death of Trump's run are greatly exaggerated.

He came in second, that's not a face plant. How did he do compared to Hillary and Bernie, anyone know the actual numbers for them?

Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry and his next prediction.

It remains to be seen how Rubio will do in New Hampshire. I'm predicting a win, even though Trump is still high in the polls, and in some surveys, Rubio is neck-and-neck with the likes of Chris Christie and John Kasich and even Jeb Bush. But now Rubio has shown that he can translate his advantages on paper into actual performance at the polls. He has shown that he's the most credible alternative to Cruz and Trump, which is probably what most New Hampshire voters are looking for. He has a ton of momentum coming out of Iowa.

So, we'll see. And don't worry, if I get it wrong in New Hampshire, I'll eat my hat.

I say old chap do you want some Gray Poupon with that hat ?
