I am trying to understand why African-American voters are so overwhelmingly Democrats and I have done a bit of research. At the end of the Civil War, almost all African-Americans identified themselves as Republicans, the party of Abe Lincoln. At that time and for nearly a century afterward, Southern Democrats fought giving ANY rights to African-Americans at all. African-Americans were not even allowed to attend the Democrat Convention until 1924. Roosevelt's New deal helped a lot of minority citizens find work which raised the number of African-American Democrats to 44%. Then, when Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, he got 94% of the African-American vote and now it has settled into around 84% of African-Americans who identify as Democrats. The most African-American votes garnered by a Republican presidential candidate since then has been Gerald Ford with 15%. So, here's my question. The Civil Rights Act was 50 YEARS AGO. WHAT has the Democrat Party done for you lately ? Only 28% of African-Americans identify as Liberal in their political views with 44% claiming to be moderate. So, what is it? Although it's a popular response, I refuse to believe that it's the "hand-outs" from the Democrats because that is a pretty racist view, in my opinion, and I refuse to consider African-Americans as being "less than" and in need of hand-outs. So I'm stumped. They talk about it a lot in the election coverage, but nobody ever says WHY. I would love for some African-American voters here on the forum to help me understand this phenomenon and I thank you in advance for your insights.

They could always go to a Trump rally and let all the people push them around until they are thrown out. Or stand silently at the top of the bleachers and get escorted out by security because "it was a private event".

All compelling facts you list....my guess is a lot more of them be liking the handouts then they would like to admit. Overall, are they better or worse off than 8 yrs ago? Pretty simple answer, yet they will still vote for The HILdebeast.

My personal insights are as follows:

-I've worked since I was 16, and currently hold a professional position. I have never been on any government assistance. I am married and well-educated. Despite all of this, whenever I have experienced stereotypes and overt racism, it has come from someone who identifies as "conservative". I still try to give people the benefit of the doubt, because I know that no one person characterizes an entire group, and I know Democrats can be racist too...but there's a DEFINITE pattern there in my experience. The underlying assumption that I need/want free stuff, and am somehow "less than" or inherently criminal is a prime example. I only see these sentiments coming from Republicans (just check this forum) and whenever I do, it just increases my support for the opposing side.

-Republicans seem to consistently embrace candidates who engage in and feed off of racial/religious stereotypes.

So to answer your question, I work hard, so I know that my family and I will be ok regardless of who is in office...I just can't ever see myself throwing my support behind a candidate or a party that has consistently shown such a lack of respect for my humanity and the humanity of others.

^^^Prime example of why I could never vote for a Republican. I agree with many of the views of more moderate Republicans, but there are WAY too many guys like this in your party for me to EVER consider joining the ranks.

Get rid of the bigots and the GOP would flourish.

Great answer.

It's pretty simple. Let's compare Democrats and Republicans on the issues of race/racism:

While they don't do much about it, most Democrats at least acknowledge racism is still prevalent. Some of them are racist, but far fewer than Republicans.

Republicans on the other hand either think (or pretend to think) racism no longer exists, or are overtly and unapologetically racist.

So for African Americans it's pretty simple: They stick with the party (Democrats) who at least understand how pervasive racism still is even if they usually don't do much about it.

LOL! The Democratic voters are chock full of bigots. I'd not venture to guess the ratio, but I would not be surprised one bit if it were greater than 50:50 with the bigots being on the higher end.

What is bigoted? The OP listed stone cold facts and said the only thing he could see was the Dems gives out more handouts than Repubs, which they do....but oh yes, play the race card, so convenient

You do realize that the KKK was basically the enforcer for the Dem party, right? Keep pointing to the Repubs as the racists
