So you think a 68-year old woman who may have health problems should choose a 75-year old man as her VP? Okay, but what if both die and then Paul Ryan becomes president?
A lot of Bernie's supporters will simply sit out the election if the only choice is Trump vs Hillary. Trump has galvanized support, as does Bernie, while Hillary has less than enthusiastic support, as did Cruz. Kasich would add absolutely nothing to her campaign. Bernie would also help deflect the 'email' card that Trump will no doubt play. Bernie is also pit bull and I'd take him over Trump in that regard because his intelligence level is much higher. There's something in it for Sanders as he would have more influence in what he wants to accomplish, and it would position him for another run later.
"email card" make no sense. I doubt many who favors Sanders will not vote for Clinton, when doing such, supports Trump.

Sanders is as fit as ever and has higher energy levels than a subsidized wind farm. He aint going anywhere.
I suspect he will push through big changes no matter how this all ends up with his big grassroots movement and massive fundraising potential at the snap of his fingers.

Highly unlikely that both would die simultaneously. A younger person would be installed as the new VP if one of them were to die (though it is entirely possible that a-hole Congress would refuse to ratify . . . . kinda like now).
In the case Hillary wins the nominee. To ensure voters don't vote Third or for Trump will ask Sanders to be her VP?
I wouldn't like him as her VP as he can do more in the Senate. However, it could sway a lot of voters. I actually think if Hillary reached out took Sanders in her Cabinet, said she will listen to Sanders advice going against Nader/DNC Chair current viewpoint, and take on a member of Congress that shares Sanders view point as her VP...think that would turn voters to her.
I don't think that Bernie would accept being the VP or a Cabinet position unless he was quite sure that he would be replaced by another Democrat. He'll stay in the Senate because he knows he'll have a bigger voice there if the Democrats win that body. I do think that Hillary will pick as her VP somebody who is left of center, possibly a well-known Bernie supporter.
