People would rather have someone they don't necessarily like but who they know is qualified for the job than someone they don't like and who they realize is an unqualified buffoon.

You are 100% correct. The only way Trump can win is by making Hillary look awful (which she is imo). That's exactly what he did in the GOP race, he went and tore each candidate down one by one, if he couldn't attack them on the issues he would attack them personally or their families, nothing is off limits with him. I think the only way Trump can win is if Hillary is indicted, which isn't going to happen. The only person less popular then Hillary is Trump. I for one absolutely hate Hillary, but that's still not enough to get me to vote for Trump. 4-8 years of Hillary is going to be similar to Bushes 8 years, I can live/survive that, but Trump could very well be a disaster.
If Mr. Trump had strategically leaked the tape, you know he would be fanning the flame with twitter bombs about it. But instead, all quiet on the eastern front. He hangs up on calls from journalists. His surrogates are silent. It's very friggin' weird, either way.
