We've all listened to The Donald tell, us what great negotiator he is. How once he is in office he will renegotiate all the bad trade deals, force Mexico to build the wall, get along fabulously with Putin and bring China in line with becoming more subservient to the USA. Oh yea, and destroying ISIS within a matter of months (whole other thread coming on that soon).
They all sound great, certainly to the mast majority of Trump supporters who believe he will work in a vacuum and rule as King Donald. Unfortunately for him, our government was built on checks and balances that will force him to work with the system, not fight it.
In an effort to be more fair, i went looking for articles on Trump that would give me better insight into the man, his companies and his style. Clearly he's had a lot of success along the road to get to where he is today. And while some of his corporations have failed, they pail in comparison to the number of wins.
One of the sites i stumbled across may contain one of the best analysis of the pro's and con's of Trump style over the past 40 years. It's from USA Today and is entitled
Exclusive: Trump's 3,500 lawsuits unprecedented for a presidential nominee. (link attached).
Before you dismiss it out of hand, it's worth the read because it truly does contain some of the best, and worst, of Donald Trump. Just for example, i will post here a couple of the most powerful paragraphs which may help you decide whether a further read is warranted.
So we are clear, the total number of suits is both by and against Trump and his corporations. Obviously many are frivolous and were nothing more than scams trying to squeeze him for a couple of bucks. Others have been much more serious. Some have resulted in cases being thrown out, some have resulted in settlements (both ways) and others are pending.
This paragraph describes his approach and many will applaud his aggressive stance:
The legal actions provide clues to the leadership style the billionaire businessman would bring to bear as commander in chief. He sometimes responds to even small disputes with overwhelming legal force. He doesn’t hesitate to deploy his wealth and legal firepower against adversaries with limited resources, such as homeowners. He sometimes refuses to pay real estate brokers, lawyers and other vendors.
This sentence disputes his negotiating style:
As he campaigns, Trump often touts his skills as a negotiator. The analysis shows that lawsuits are one of his primary negotiating tools.
The point of this thread is contained in this paragraph found in the article:
Review of thousands of legal actions show that Trump is fiercely protective of his brand, quick to distance himself from deals that struggle, willing to deploy outsized resources against adversaries and sometimes prone to micro-management, even in disputes that involve relatively small amounts of money.
"Fiercely protective of the brand," as the man should be. He's built his empire on that brand, who he is and what he stands for. So, the logical conclusion is with the rumors now floating about over issues with a minor, it's clear he will strike quickly and firmly so they are squashed once and for all. Something all of us want to see.
While the business of politics is dirty enough, spreading lies and making stuff up is just plain wrong.
