WASHINGTON — Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.
A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
How problematic could this story be in terms of McCain's campaign?
Equally important, who broke the story, the Obama camp or the Evangelical/Huckabee camp? It sounds more like a Right-wing hatchet job, a la Karl Rove to me. I guess this is the story that Novak was alluding to all along.
This also demonstrates that the Republicans have the stones to try and get rid of a candidate that they think is bad for their party. Perhaps the Democrats will grow some soon as well.
I think this could be very bad for McCain, since the allegation is that he also helped out this women in terms of the legislation she was lobbying for, on top of whatever adulterous physical relationship took place. That raises questions of public confidence, not just private marital fidelity.
Would he really be dumb enough to have his mistress traveling with him, especially when he's running for president? I'd find that very hard to believe.

Kieth Olberman and Pat Buchanan are talking about it right now. Maybe we have an elderly Republican Bill Clinton.

You know what, I am just going to take the "memory pill" from The Matrix and just pretend I have no interest in Politics. LOL This is by far the strangest election cycle that I have ever seen.

Did you ever study Plato's allegory of the cave?
I'm starting to understand the mindset of not wanting to leave the cave.
There's a difference in the credibility of the reporting here, I'd say.
