I thought it was strange too, but I guess living in the South for twenty years develops a pretty decent southern accent.
It happens pretty fast. My sister-in-law lived in South Carolina for four years and we gave her grief every time she came back to Chicago talking like a Southerner. Hillary lived in Arkansas for years. It's not surprising that she would pick up a bit of an accent while she was there.
Why did she have a southern accent? She's from Chicago?
Same reason she talked jive in the negro church in the south several years back.
