Maya Angelou (former national poet laureate) has written reflections on Hillary. Here's a snippet:

"You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may tread me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I'll rise."

For the complete reflection (and the entire article), here's the link:

Maya Angelou's poem in praise of Hillary | World | The Observer

Odd that the British media is covering this and not our own.

I prefer this version:

"You may say Bill's flings are history,

You forgive his twisted lies;

But you really made a devil's deal:

Now he lies for you -- surprise!"

Really?! Is that why her autobiographical book "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," published in 1969, is a staple of American literature? And why she published four more volumes of the autobiography before the Clintons were nationally known? I was TEACHING "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" before B. Clinton ran for the presidency.

You might also want to read the article, which states she was a popular poet in Britain in the 1970s.

Yes, I'm being a literature snob right now.

Sadly, I don't think so.

That answers my question on why the British newspapers would publish this prominently and American newspapers didn't.

I would ask you the same question. lol. If you can tell me with a straight face that she was a houshold name BEFORE the Clinton administration, I will concede.

There is a difference between being known in certain circles and being known by the masses.

"Making" someone's career and "being a household name" are two entirely different things.

Abbreviate history of her career:

Maya Angelou had racked up Pulitzer and National Book Award nominations before Bill and Hillary were out of law school. She earned an emmy in 1977 for Roots. She mentored Oprah, and was chosen to recite a poem at Clinton's inauguration BECAUSE she was a famous poet. She wasn't some unknown lit major struggling to make a name for herself.

Maybe this should be moved to the History forum, "When did American Public Schools start to go downhill"
