"No one in the GOP was better equipped, by position and disposition alike, to resist Trump’s racially infused, insular nationalism, or to define a more inclusive competing vision for the party. Instead, Ryan chose to tolerate both Trump’s personal excesses and his racially polarizing words and deeds as the price worth paying to advance Ryan’s own top priorities: cutting spending; regulations; and above all, taxes. The result was that Ryan, more than any other prominent Republican, personified the devil’s bargain the GOP has signed with Trump. And his departure crystallizes the difficult choices Republicans face as Trump redefines the party in his belligerent image."

Holy cow. Stuff like this is why I left the GOP. It's been hijacked by the crazies and seemingly sensible people like Paul Ryan let it happen.

Ryan is a bought and paid for globalist. He could not imagine an outsider could get elected.
His bubble was broken on election night and he figured out the best way to harm the Trump agenda was to get him to tackle healthcare instead of tax cuts. His failure on the omnibus was the last bit of real damage he could do. Its disgusting that he wasn't ask to resign as Speaker of the House.

The GOP campaigned against the ACA for six years almost nonstop. Trump promised to repeal it on "day one." The Republicans had no choice but to attempt to follow through on all of their stupid rhetoric. The only problem is, they had absolutely nothing to offer--they were all empty promises. And that includes Trump.

Ryan showed himself to be another party over country guy by rolling over for Trump. He has been a good little lap dog, staying silent through all of Trump's blustering and blundering about.

Just about the whole GOP has done so, and they are going to have to live with the fallout of their cowardice now.

Well, except for Paul Ryan. That coward is tucking his tail between his legs and hightailing it out of town before it all hits the fan.

I looked in that tunnel but decided it wasn't going to be my daily view.

Nobody from the D party wanted Trump, and very few from the R party wanted Trump. The media didn't want Trump. Many world leaders didn't want Trump. All of those entities thought that Trump would lose. The only group that wanted Trump was 63 million Americans who went to the polling booth and pulled the trigger for him. Trump won.

And America lost.

It would have been great if Ryan had been able to give that speech in 2016, but we would have just had Trump, or another like him running again in 2020.

Now, we will recover as a nation.

The good Republicans and Conservatives will realize that damage caused by the bigot base was not worth the few extra votes they might have received, and they will return to being the party of fiscal responsibility and law & order.

Anyone with half a brain would have had a similar speech ready.

This is a dog and pony show set up by the Deep State to isolate Trump and strip the people of their right to fair and free elections and representation. They have dirt on every single senator and congressman that has decided to not seek re election. They're being blackmailed into retiring to shift the balance and then Trump can be blamed. But news flash.. this can just as easily be done to the dems( and most likely has) and we'll end having sham elections where pre determined candidates get installed, ones promised to serve special interests, foreign interests and not the people. Fake elections.
If just a few of these people would stand up and say how they're being forced into leaving office, the uprising of the people would lay waste to the DC establishment. Instead, they slink off into the shadows taking whatever deal they've been offered. Maybe its no loss.

As flawed, and prickly as Trump is, he is our only hope to turn this country around from the Fundamental Transformation we've been under for the last few decades. We aren't meant to be another Europe for a very good reason, and that is freedom, and opportunity. Why do people want to come here legally, and illegally? If we continue down this path, our illegal alien problem will go away, as they won't want to come here anymore.
