Democrats like to indulge themselves in that Hillary lost by just 3 states. Michigan, Wisconsin & Pennsylvania. So far, IMO, none of the crazed A-list Democrats announced so far have any chance of doing better than Hillary. (probably worse)
But now there is someone sensible running. Pete Buttigieg. And he's from the mid-west too and a veteran.
Looks like the perfect person for the Democrats to nominate to win back those states. What do you think?
I think we need to focus on more than simply identity politics.
Its called politics for a reason. Its about policy. Policy shouldnt simply be left to be hashed out between the major campaign donors once the election is over. It should be front and center of any campaign. Not the age, skin color, sexual orientation, gender, home town or what ever else the corporate media talks about.
What are the major policies that Pete Buttigieg is pushing?
The OP doesn't even seem to be aware of half the dem candidates.
John Hickenlooper, Amy Klobuchar and Tim Ryan would probably be favorites and maybe Harris, Gillibrand, Inslee, Gabbard and probably a few others would also stand a good chance.

I'm aware of them. Except for Harris, all never wuzzes. They won't last beyond SC.
The Clinton's Wall Street Democrats are pushing for Harris/"Beh Toe". It remains to be seen if they rook the primary rules like they did for Hillary to insure that the choice is ether one of them. Neither of them have the wide spread appeal of Pete Buttigieg.
Perhaps, but we don't know that Buttigieg is going to last very long, either. This far in advance of the primaries, a lot could happen. Front runners could appear out of nowhere, and people getting unexpected attention early on could fade. Or who knows what.
^The worst thing the Democrats could do for themselves is to nominate Biden because it's "his turn".
He'll end up on the trash heap with McCain, Dole and Hillary. Trump will tear him up.
Pete Buttigieg on the other hand does not have Biden's baggage. He's a veteran, good looking, isn't a crazed leftist, and committed to his faith & husband. He would be the person they need to effectively take on Trump.

...you forgot, he'll lock up the sodomite voting bloc as well...
