actually it was NOT free health care...it was (yes free) heath screenings….. anyone with TB, typhoid, ect was quarantined and then TURNED AWAY....(and that is a big mistake of today..we should test and turn away)
and there were very few vaccinations back then (cowpox, a variation of small pox, cholera , and anthrax (1904)…. plague, tetanus, and diphtheria wasn't till the 1920's
They were all treated until they were denied visas. The immigrants got the same medical treatment any citizen would have gotten at that time until their status was determined.
Why? Because it was the humane way to do things. Every immigrant is just as human as any citizen, and deserves no more or less respect than is allowed any human citizen.
Our government made citizenship hard back then, but we didn't treat immigrants like animals.
I'm not a conservative -- I'm a moderate who very slightly leans conservative, but can't stand Trump -- but if the conservatives want to ensure a Trump victory, they should nominate either Harris or any of the current front-runners (Biden, Sanders and Warren) who are all, imo, extreme leftists. About a third of the country are moderate, and from what I have read, given a choice between Trump and one of the top three current Dem contenders, most will hold their noses and vote for Trump.
I think that Harris would be the easiest to beat (by far), with Sanders, Biden and Warren tied for "runner up". They are all terrible to most moderates, I think.
Biden an 'extreme leftist". LOL.
What are you reading? It's certainly not state polling wherein Biden, Sanders and Warren all beat Trump in a head to head matchup.

And immigrants didn't treat citizens like an ATM either.

Yeah, I think Biden is playing to the left because he has to right now......all the rest are seeing how far left they can go, so he has to follow along somewhat (he thinks). If he gets the nod, I think we'll see him go back to slightly left of center, kinda where Obama tried to live....

nope
my G-G-Grand father came over from the kingdom of Austria in 1896...he could speak/read/write 7 different languages (mostly the romantic languages to include the now dead language of Austrian )...he and his family needed to be sponsored to come here...upon arriving at Elis Island they were PROCESSED, many of his fellow ship riders were immediately quarantined, and because of (TB for example) were denied entry into the USA. during this process they were in wards...kinda like barracks, these floors had bars on the windows and the doors were locked
the process has not really changed.... what has changed is how you americans view these accommodations and corresponding restrictions…

Yes. But the most important fact was they were medically treated.
There's no problem with barracks housing. The people in them just need to be treated with some human respect and not like they were caged animals.

Yes, just like they're being treated now under the Trump administration.
