From the Houston Chronicle:

WASHINGTON — In the months leading to the first presidential primary of 2008, John McCain couldn't command much respect, or much campaign cash, from the oil and gas industry.
The Arizona senator spent far more time talking about government reform than energy policy, and Republican rival Rudy Giuliani raised nearly three times as much from energy interests. McCain even trailed Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton in oil and gas dollars.
But in recent months, with the price of gasoline on the minds of Americans, the candidate has come a long way in persuading energy interests to open their wallets. He has embraced one of their top priorities, increased domestic production, just as Democrats have stepped up their rhetorical assault on Big Oil — and the result has been a spike in contributions to the McCain campaign.

The key moment was the Republican candidate's June 16 Houston speech to cheering energy executives, during which he embraced offshore drilling, a position he previously opposed.

Hillary was on the right track.

Good for John McCain. Opening up domestic drilling is a GREAT idea. So much so, that Obama is in favor of it too.

It is the right thing for our country. It is environmentally safe. It will reduce dependency on countries that hate us. It will create thousands of high paying jobs. It will reduce gas prices.

Campaign contributions:

If your presidential candidate touted a plan that supported increased profits for American sex toy manufacturers -- and at the same time reduced the amount of sex toy imports from China, wouldn't that industry make contributions to him? You bet they would.

McCain said that he would help the oil industry help the American people, and the oil industry, in turn supported him.

You mean Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and that bunch in Congress.
Most Democrats support domestic drilling, and all of the above, including Obama.

You can't seriously believe that we're going to be able to stop transporting goods across the country. Stop driving semi trucks and move our products on bicycles?

Hasn't anyone heard that there is no current oil shortage? These prices are NOT because we are not drilling in AMWAR.

Answer:

1st: Land may be leased to you, but there's no guarantee that there is profitable oil there.

2nd: Through seismic exploration, oil companies have determined that those acres would produce less oil than new areas. The areas that are leased to them are less productive than other areas ( like the Destin Dome ). Why should they invest in currently leased areas when they can produce twice as much oil in other highly predicted areas, at the same cost?

These leases are going to run out, then Democrats won't be able to promote these specific acres anymore. These acres are diversions, meant to slow the possibility of expanded exploration, in areas that long standing contributors to the Democratic party wish to see unfettered. You must realize, Democrats don't want America to use it's own oil.

Hmm...

You seem to get the daily news from you Boyfriend. I don't dispute the oil shortage thing, but don't you go beyond that?
