I'm curious because of an observation, or perhaps a number of them that have come forward lately - some on this very forum.

-Senator McCain is very quiet when Senator Obama isn't around.
-A major Military crisis breaks out and Senator McCain doesn't skyrocket or get a nice bump in the polls...and Senator Obama isn't around.
-Senator Obama is on Vacation, and Senator McCain doesn't dominate the press cycle with policy (foreign) during a pretty big foreign policy/military incident...while Senator Obama isn't around.

What gives? Isn't this tailor-made for Senator McCain, or does he need Senator Obama "around"?

IDK maybe I got a warped way of looking at it but wouldn't it be like fighting someone that is in between rounds. They are resting on the stool and the other is smashing their head in.

I think if McCain went on vacation Obama would slow for the brief period. I'm probably wrong though.

This would be a perfect oppurtunity for McCain to display his military expertise. Unfortunately for him, his earlier comments re: the Georgia/Russia conflict were not well received, so he's probably trying to regroup.

Senator McCain has been way over the top and hawkish when speaking about foreign policy. He could be strong on foreign policy, but even then he is still projecting himself far beyond justification. He has proven he doesn't really understand geography or ethnic dynamics in a region that has been at the forefront of American military policy the past few years. He appears very hot tempered and too quick to react before thinking. He never held a leadership position in the military, so we can't just give him a pass as a military leader. He is also unfamiliar with dynamics occurring in Iraq around the time and during the surge. So to say he is inept and ignorant on foreign policy might be a little too nice. Mr. McCain is unfit to lead this nation's foreign policy and not just because I disagree with him, but because he doesn't even know why he agrees with himself.

No you are right, McCain said Obama should take the vacation and that he takes his on weekend and Obama is just stringing days together. McCain made the vacation a non issue and it also gave him a break(other then Georgia etc).

Gallup Daily

I don't know - he had a bit of a lead through all this, now they're tied.

WI,PA,MN - all "blue" states are really close.

McCain cleaned obambi's clock with this "convenient little war".

Yup, McCain and this country has a real problem. We still have Iran and nukes on the table and our recent rhetoric makes it very difficult for us to launch another attack across the globe. Something is going on and it isn't very good for us right now. This is not a good time for an election but time to rally around a sitting popular administration which we don't have.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2008 - Latest Polls

Is this how you go on vacation and get your clocked cleaned? What happens if he comes up from the 8 count? 7 count? 6 count? 5 count? 4 count? darnit you know what I mean come on where is a poll showing Obama losing so I can say he is down for the count. We need a new Fox poll. Maybe Gallup tomorrow or Rasmussen tomorrow or Sunday. Can we keep Obama away for another week. So we can slice and dice him some more?

Is Senator McCain's recent rhetoric "weakening" the image of the US in terms of Foreign Policy?
