Scottsman

"It seems incredible, but as the Democrats gather in Denver to anoint Barack Obama, America could be on course to re-elect a Republican as their President. Not just any Republican either, but a belligerent 71-year-old who can’t remember how many houses he owns, would happily nuke Iran and whose answer to global warming is to drill for oil in environmentally sensitive areas off the coast of America which don’t even have much oil. But according to the polls, John McCain is drawing level with Barack Obama, and even pulling ahead.

Really, America is a strange, strange country. After a disastrous and illegal war, in which 4000 American soldiers have died, in the middle of an economic crisis largely caused by the investment houses that finance the Republican party, you would have thought it almost inconceivable that the Republicans could be re-elected. Could any political brand be more toxic? Has any party in history deserved to be thrown out at an election more than the Republicans in 2008?

… Yet enough American voters believe that John McCain might have the answers for him to become a serious contender. Which is scary. McCain is not an unknown quantity - he is a highly excitable politician with a notoriously short temper, who would bring his impetuous and confrontational style into American foreign policy. With the world entering a global economic slump, and old enmities raging in Europe, John McCain as President would be like a flamethrower in a fireworks factory.

No wonder. America is on a slow downhill track. Too many feeble minded/ignorant citizens who are not even sophisticated enough to vote in their own self interest.

Read the threads on these forums to if you'd like proof. It's not issues or policy that drives debate, (too complex for them), but GOP instigated smears.

Obama's preacher, Obama's wife, Obama kills babies, Obama loves terrorists, Obama may be Muslim, Obama did drugs, Obama runs with criminals...

Good Lord. These right wingers have no idea how they are tearing this country apart!

Wow. That's the best piece of objective, accurate and fair journalism I've seen in quite a while. Not!

Outside of the democrat party, most people don't care what foreigners think of our elections. Best you keep that in mind.

I know what is wrong with America...ignorant rednecks and racists. Though the two overlap.

Sounds like that article nails it. Not that I'm a fan of Obama, but if you look back at the past eight years, you really would have to wonder how in the world we could even think of handing the keys to the GOP -- and to McCain at that. Funny that it takes a foreign newspaper to get it right. If any columnist said that over here, they'd be getting death threats from the Freedom Patriots.

Yes, and all of these feeble minded/ignorant citizens have already gone down the path of yet again selecting a useless Dem or Rep. candidate who is going to do nothing to change the way DC works, and the direction that our country is going.

If people could really get away from the party loyalty and vote for the actual best candidate and not who their party of choice shoves at them, we wouldbe in much better shape.

Oh well...for the next 4 years we will be stuck with Obama or McCain, either way I'm not holding my breath for some big improvement.

Yes, because we have never heard this before as W's stormtroopers will take everyone who whispers such a link to the secret gulags in new mexico.

What the scottish newspaper wrote is not new by any accounts. It has been discussed to death, although it is right to be brought up. If republicans aren't thrilled with mccain -- and a lot arent' -- those are the reasons for it. Nobody wants a repeat of w, and mccain is not the best the republicans had to offer. Not new news at all, frankly.

Obama did drugs (he admitted it check his book out)
Obama runs with criminals... (well he was directly involved with convicted criminals in more than questionable deals)
That about sums it up......what part do you disagree with?
