Help for Returning Service Members

Obama will improve the quality of health care for veterans, rebuild the VA's broken benefits system, and combat homelessness among veterans.
  • Ensure a Seamless Transition: Obama will demand that the military and the VA coordinate to provide a seamless transition from active duty to civilian life.
  • Fully Fund VA Medical Care: Barack Obama will fully fund the VA so it has all the resources it needs to serve the veterans who need it, when they need it. Obama will establish a world-class VA Planning Division to avoid future budget shortfalls.
  • Fix the Benefits Bureaucracy: Obama will hire additional claims workers, and improve training and accountability so that VA benefit decisions are rated fairly and consistently. He also will transform the paper benefit claims process to an electronic one to reduce errors and improve timeliness.
Improved Mental Health Treatment

Obama will improve mental health treatment for troops and veterans suffering from combat-related psychological injuries.
  • Improve Mental Health Treatment: Obama will improve mental health care at every stage of military service. He will recruit more health professionals, improve screening, offer more support to families and make PTSD benefits claims fairer.
  • Improve Care for Traumatic Brain Injury: Obama will establish standards of care for Traumatic Brain Injury, the signature injury of the Iraq war.
  • Expand Vet Centers: Obama will expand and strengthen Vet Centers to provide more counseling for vets and their families.

The BEST way Obama will (or CAN, as he has not done this yet) support our veterans is end the Iraq War.

Its like you have cancer, and you are fighting it as it is killing you. The treatment leaves you feeling very weak. Without energy. Dying.

Would smoking five packs a day help, or hurt, your ability to breathe better and without oxygen?

He knows what to do, but the corporatist pigs in the war complex making billions would rather veterans keep dying.

Great for business.

I happen to believe that this is true. Thanks for posting.

According to the right wing voters they don't want their tax dollars to support such a socialist agenda. Ya know personal responsibility and all.

I agree, and not get involved in any others.

Because his platform has so many domestic issues in it, I don't think he will be thinking about bleeding money and youth in foriegn engagements.

Now, I hear the Pentagon is asking that we not leave, because the surge wasn't, obviously, all that effective.

I agree. I cannot see any way to bow out of that situation gracefully, and we cannot afford to stay there.

Damned Bush. He has ruined so much in this country. And he has the nerve to call himself a Christian and a patriot. The whole party has been taken over by the neocons and Bush is their dream, having done all that they wanted him to do.

I really dislike politicians, but to me Obama looks disconnected from their propaganda and I think he and his wife are strong people and not as easily bribed. I just pray they don't pull on him what was done to the Kennedys.

If he tries to de-privatize the Federal Reserve or disband the CIA like Kennedy, who knows?

Congrats on being the only true issue related post on the entire forum front page.

Now onto the issue:

These 2 alone would make me feel good about my Tax dollars, and as a Veteran would make me proud to use VA:

Right now, VA is a total mess and it is a disservice to our Veterans.

The response I get from right-wing kooks when backed into a corner for not "supporting our troops" comments is always the same: "Well, they volunteered!"

I can't believe that there isn't more news about McCain voting AGAINST the veteran's bill that Webb introduced. I thought that was disgusting.

Yep, they sure did volunteer which then made them property of the U.S. government. Nice to see how trivially we treat our property isn't it? Makes one wonder how trivially we treat the rest of our property.
